Global Challenge Survey - The results

Lifestyle V Climate Change
Almost twice as many respondents were more concerned about crime in their area than climate change (29% vs 15%).
Nearly half (48%) won’t go out of their way to be more environmentally friendly if it affects their lifestyle.
Around half (48%) think about climate change but don’t really dwell on it,
Nearly half (45%) agree that if they could save money they’d be more environmentally friendly.
1 in 2 (49%) said they wouldn’t want to pay £250 a year more in energy bills in order to back the government policy to move to greener resources,
More than 1 in 3 (36%) either can’t afford to buy, or don’t buy environmentally friendly products because of the extra cost.
Respondents are making changes in their home to be greener,
Recycling
Nearly everyone recycles (89%),
87% using energy saving bulbs,
77% turning appliances off rather than leaving on standby .
Although 95% don’t intend to get solar panels,
67% don’t intend to get a water butt
63% don’t intend to get a compost heap.
80% of respondents believe it’s both the employees and employers responsibility to make their workplace greener,
But 4 in 10 employees state their employer hasn’t introduced paper recycling bins,
More than ½ are still using paper towels rather than hand dryers
7 in 10 say they haven’t had incentives for car sharing / cycling to work.
Just two thirds of respondents understood what carbon offsetting means...
Travel
More than 2 in 3 would never consider car sharing
Nearly 1 in 2 (46%) wouldn’t consider using public transport instead of their cars.
The Copenhagen Conference
4 in 10 were not aware of the UN Climate Change Conference and 11% didn’t care that there is a conference taking place.
More than half (53%) believe that everyone flying to Copenhagen and back to discuss climate change is hypocritical,
21% don’t even believe a treaty will be agreed,
35% believe a treaty will be agreed but nothing will happen.
Only 2% believe that a treaty will be agreed that everyone will stick to.
